Amazon Customer –
This knife is quite hefty, but definitely a great conversation piece. I picked it up during a fantastic sale, and honestly, I would have gladly paid full price after trying it out. My collection of S&W firearms made this purchase even more appealing, as you can never have too many knives or guns.
Overall, I’m really impressed with its quality. The blade has no wobble when deployed, and the MAGIC deployment feature works flawlessly, releasing the blade at just the right speed—not so fast that you have to grip the handle tightly, but not slow either. Plus, it arrived razor sharp.
While it can certainly be carried every day, it is a bit bulky and heavier than some might prefer. However, many people appreciate these characteristics in EDC knives.

I discovered this knife on budk.com and instantly fell in love with it. After checking Amazon, I found it was nearly $30 cheaper, including shipping, so I decided to purchase it there.
The shipping was free and promised within 3-5 days, but it surprisingly arrived in about 2 days—likely because I live close to the shipping location. However, the package was sent to the wrong address. Fortunately, someone kindly took it to our local Post Office without opening it.
When I finally received the knife, I noticed a rattling sound even before opening the box. Upon taking it out, I found that the black thumb-stud on the blade was broken in half, and the loose piece was inside the box.
I quickly filled out a return form and repackaged everything as it arrived. I expected to have to send it back before Amazon would send me a replacement, but to my surprise, they shipped the replacement right away at no extra cost and gave me 30 days to return the defective knife, which I thought was fantastic.
Today, I received the new knife in my own box, packaged differently than the first (the first was a layer of cardboard, while the second was just a yellow bag). Fortunately, this one arrived in perfect condition, with everything working properly and a very sharp blade.
As for the knife itself, it’s quite heavy. I’m a bigger guy, so I appreciate a larger knife, but it might feel a bit bulky for someone smaller. The blade requires a fair amount of pressure to release, but once it does, it opens quickly.
The lock on the side of the knife is solid and seems unlikely to open in my pocket, plus it looks great.
Overall, it’s a really nice knife, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a larger, heavier pocket knife. I give it 4 out of 5 stars due to the shipping issue and the initial broken knife.

I purchased this knife in search of a slightly larger and more robust EDC option that included a glass breaker, all without breaking the bank. For about two years, I’ve carried a Gerber 22 FAST DRAW knife with a 3-inch partially serrated blade, which has proven to be an outstanding tool with minimal maintenance. I highly recommend it to anyone. However, this review is focused on my new S&W SWMP4LS.
This knife features a 3.6-inch partially serrated blade and is noticeably heavier than my Gerber 22—about 50% more—but it’s not so heavy that it becomes uncomfortable in hand or on my belt. I appreciate the extra weight; it gives the knife a solid, substantial feel. It came sharp out of the box and maintained its edge for quite some time. Although the blade is roughly ground, it still performs well. A visit to a professional sharpener, or a DIY sharpening session if you have the skills, can give this knife a beautifully polished edge.
This is my first assisted opening knife with a spine flipper; all my previous AO knives utilized thumb studs. It took just three openings for me to become a fan of the flipper. After trying the thumb knob to deploy the blade, I found the spine flipper to be more effective and user-friendly. The knife sits comfortably in my palm when I use the flipper to deploy the blade.
The “M.A.G.I.C. assist” opening system quickly deploys the blade with a satisfying “click!” Once open, the liner lock secures the blade in place, and the side safety lock adds an extra layer of protection. When closing the blade, there’s a reassuring tension as it locks shut in the frame, accompanied by another satisfying “click!” indicating it’s securely closed.
While a frame lock might offer more security, it would also increase the cost. I believe a liner lock from a reputable brand is a reliable mechanism for AO knives.
The glass breaker performs exceptionally well. Though I had never used one before, I was able to easily break several car windows and a windshield with minimal effort—though I recommend using gloves and safety glasses for protection.
The side safety functions like a toggle switch on a firearm, which I find preferable on my AO knives. It easily toggles up (off) and down (on), with a visible red dot indicating when the safety is off.
Overall, the construction of the knife appears solid. The frame is sturdy, there’s no play in the blade when deployed, and the pocket clip is durable yet easy to use. However, this knife only offers one pocket clip option: right-handed, tip-down. I lent it to a left-handed friend, who found it comfortable in his pocket but mentioned a preference for a sheath. The knife boasts an aggressive and unique design that I find visually appealing. A bit of jimping along the top where the thumb rests would enhance grip further. The 4034 stainless steel blade retains its edge well and shows minimal wear; while S30V steel would be superior, it would also raise the price.
All in all, the Smith & Wesson SWMP4LS is an exceptional EDC knife. For an AO knife in the $30-$50 range, it’s hard to surpass. I rate this knife 5 stars—it’s an outstanding value and a fantastic tool.

After misplacing my Gerber skeleton knife, I set out to find a replacement and discovered this one. It’s an excellent knife! I can easily open and close it with one hand, and it’s incredibly sharp. I appreciate the safety feature since I carry it on my belt outdoors, preventing any accidental openings. It feels sturdy yet not overly bulky, if that makes sense.

My husband absolutely loved this for his birthday! It has a nice weight and sharpness. It’s a versatile knife that feels sturdy and fits easily in your pocket.

Excellent value for the price! It arrives with impressive factory sharpness, and I really appreciate the safety feature that prevents it from accidentally deploying in my pocket.

I’ve been using my old version for almost 10 years, and this new one is identical. I ordered two, and both are fantastic. A spritz of WD-40 made it even more flexible. I’m very satisfied with the quality.
