4 reviews for Lightweight CIVIVI Baklash C801H Folding Pocket Knife – Double Black

  1. 4 out of 5

I purchased this knife as my everyday carry (EDC) blade after hearing numerous positive reviews and seeing it featured in various videos. This is my first Civivi knife, and I wanted to share my experience.

On the positive side, the knife is visually appealing, and the handle fits comfortably in my hand. The blue accents on the inside are stunning. The steel quality is decent for the price, and it arrived sharp enough to shave right out of the box, which initially impressed me.

However, there are some drawbacks. After only a little use, the tip of the blade bent significantly to the left. I attempted to fix it, but it remains slightly bent, which drives my OCD crazy. It’s hard to capture in pictures, but it looks much worse in person. Additionally, the blade is quite thin and is only suitable for light daily tasks. If you need a knife for tougher jobs, I recommend looking for something sturdier.

I’ve had this knife for months, but I hesitate to carry it because I’m worried about causing further damage. While it looks great in my collection, I will opt for a more robust knife in the future. This experience hasn’t deterred me from Civivi overall, but it has made me more cautious about the thickness of blades before making a purchase.

Bottom line: This knife is an incredible value for the price!

Longer story: I discovered this knife through Drop (formerly Massdrop), but they only had the light cornflower blue option available. I really wanted the olive green with the blued liners, so I searched elsewhere and found it for just a few bucks more here. Plus, as a Prime member, I enjoyed free shipping, and it arrived the day after I ordered it.

Having collected a wide range of knives and historical swords over the years, I appreciate both their functionality and the craftsmanship behind them. I’ve owned everything from budget-friendly options to high-end knives costing several hundred dollars. Occasionally, I come across an affordable piece that truly impresses me, and this one is the best surprise I’ve encountered.

At just under fifty bucks, it might not be considered “cheap” by some, but when you compare it to custom knives that can reach thousands and decent knives that often start over a hundred, this price point is exceptional—especially for a knife this outstanding.

The knife arrived neatly packaged in a soft-lined zippered pouch (which I’ll likely use for one of my smaller tactical flashlights), along with a polishing cloth and some decals. And let me tell you, it comes SHARP—like, you could shave the hair off your arm sharp, which is rare for an affordable knife. It’s clear the company puts a lot of effort into their products.

This brand is the budget-friendly subsidiary of WE Knives, a leading Chinese knife manufacturer known for their high-quality, high-priced knives. You’re definitely benefiting from their expertise with this one.

The knife is beautifully finished, everything fits perfectly, the blade sits dead center, and there’s no play when it’s open. The locking mechanism is solid, and the ball bearing opening action is fantastic! As a fan of assisted opening knives, I love how quickly this manually operated knife deploys.

It’s easy to open and close with one hand, and it’s ambidextrous. Just sweep the flipper, and the blade is ready to go. The liner lock is easy to find and not recessed, so no need to fumble around.

In a reverse grip, you can even snap it open (or “pop” it, as Brian Hoffner would say), but there’s no risk of accidental deployment. Once closed, it stays that way until you decide to open it, and the opening action is so satisfying—I can’t stop playing with it! It has that delightful “snick” sound when it opens.

The grip is excellent, comfortable, and slip-resistant, thanks to the G10 scales. The finger choil at the base of the blade allows for dexterity and control while still providing plenty of cutting edge. It slices effortlessly and has a fantastic tip that cuts through anything.

Now, let’s talk about aesthetics. The olive green G10 scales are lightly textured and beautifully complemented by the blued inner liners. Whether deployed or closed, it’s an attractive knife for those who appreciate both form and function.

It’s clear that a high-end knife maker is behind this design. If you’re looking for a knife that outperforms its price, get this one. If fifty bucks is at the top of your budget, treat yourself—it’s absolutely worth it. If you can spend more but want to maximize your value, this knife delivers quality that rivals those twice its price.

This has become my new everyday carry and will definitely be in my pack for my next hiking or camping trip. Best knife I’ve found at this price.

HIGHLY recommend! Thanks for reading. 🙂

This review reflects my first impressions after using the knife for just a couple of days. 1) It fits my hand perfectly and is very comfortable, with a non-slippery handle. 2) The knife opens and closes smoothly and easily, and it clips comfortably in my pocket. 3) The blade is extremely sharp. 4) I love the sleek black design with the G10 handle and blue internal mechanism. 5) At $37.50 on 12/20/23, I believe it’s a fantastic bargain. I recently bought and returned the Civivi Mini Praxis because it was too small for my hand and had a slippery handle. My previous knife was a Kershaw that broke within a year, and the lock mechanism was never reliable—total junk for around $100. I highly recommend trying the Civivi Baklash C801. Time will tell how well it holds up, but it looks phenomenal so far!

    Diss-pointed

Overall, this knife is impressively crafted. At first, the blade seems quite thin, but it’s marked “9CR18MOV,” which signifies a much sturdier blade. The thinner design makes it lighter and sharper; thanks to the high-grade material, it’s not fragile, though it won’t be suitable for chopping tree branches.

Utilizing 9CR allows for a full hollow grind all the way to the swedge, resulting in an edge as sharp as a razor! There’s a generously sized choil relief just in front of the flipper/guard, along with 13 beautifully beveled knurls on the spine for comfortable thumb placement. This knife is perfect for gutting and skinning fish.

The knurls on the flipper are also nicely beveled. The blade deploys smoothly, and the positive liner lock is easy to use when folding the knife. The pocket clip is designed for nearly hidden pocket depth.

Now, about the handle… I’ve always appreciated the sleek woven pattern of carbon fiber (this model features carbon fiber laminated onto G10). However, the one I received had 50% of it ground away to create the bevels on the scale edges. The bevel is quite shallow and wide, extending almost to the “C” emblem on one side, while leaving the carbon fiber on the other side as thin as the pocket clip.

I understand the intention behind the rounded feel of the handles, but for a more visually appealing look, they could have ground less off the sides near the blade deployment.

In summary, this is a fantastic knife overall. If you can overlook my concerns about the handle’s appearance, I highly recommend it!
